Why You Should Follow Me
I combine storytelling + science + actionable tips to give you game-changing social intelligence & intimacy skills that will transform your relationships, career & happiness.
Did you know that you don’t need to “find” the relationships you want - you can “create” them?
I was one of those people who was painfully shy as a child. I wanted friendship but I struggled to connect. I was completely clueless about how to find the type of connections I wanted but I was determined.
So, I did all the things people usually tried. I joined activity clubs, went to every party I was invited to, and went out to bars and clubs on weekends with my friends. I soon realized that “being alone” and “feeling lonely” are not the same thing. I was rarely alone but I felt lonely a lot of the time. I had company but not connection.
Aristotle said that there are three types of friendships - friendships of utility, friendships of pleasure, and friendships of virtue. Somewhere along the way, I realized that many of my friendships and relationships were those of utility or pleasure. Mostly because most of my friends were really activity partners or coworkers.
But what I really wanted was to have friendships of virtue. The ones where you can be completely yourself and be loved and accepted for it. I wanted relationships that felt fulfilling and intimate, ones that helped me grow and thrive.
Fortunately, I had plenty of motivation to overcome my shyness and to find repeatable ways to create friendships of virtue. My nomadic personality meant that I ended up constantly moving two new cities and also being an immigrant twice over.
Ever the consummate scientist (I used to be a biomedical researcher), I decided to conduct social experiments on myself. My experiments were extensive, hilarious, and often embarrassing. But I did walk away with some concrete tools and the following takeaway - friendships of virtue can be created! More amazingly, I had changed my feelings about making friends from high anxiety to fun.
My mission now is to take everything I learned from experimenting across the globe with hundreds of strangers to help you experience that kind of true connection in life whether it's in a romantic relationship, friendships, family, or with yourself.

My articles are unique in that they combine the following things:
Storytelling (from my personal experience and as a connection coach)
Scientific and research backed data (referencing the original sources of course!)
Actionable steps that you can take today.
Hope and inspiration - some writers sell fear, but I prefer to spread hope.
I decided long ago that instead of asking myself, “What do I want my reader to know?”, I wanted to ask myself, “How do I want my reader to feel?”
To that end, I hope that at the end of engaging with me, you leave feeling entertained, surprised, and hopeful.

Some Random Facts About Me
As promised earlier, here is a random assortment of facts about me to help you connect better with my writing. Reach out if you relate to any of them! For a more comprehensive list. Go here.
I’m an avid self-experimenter. I experiment with everything — food, sleep, my relationship with others, my relationship with myself, and with optimizing life.
I have read twice a day every day (when I wake up and when I fall asleep) for as long as I remember.
Rock climbing is a big part of my life. It is the way I grow, connect, and play.
Speaking of play — I believe play should be present in your life all day, every day.
I’ve always been nomadic. I’ve been an immigrant twice over (once in Australia) and now in the US and lived in dozens of cities in between. I’m currently in Boulder, Colorado in the US. If you read enough of my writing, you’ll find out where I’m actually from 😉.
My favorite thing about myself is that I am my own best friend.
I used to be a geneticist, then an engineer. Now, I fix problematic engineering projects for a living. It’s great. I get paid to analyze data, solve puzzles, and listen. It’s the best training in human dynamics ever.
Still Not Convinced?
There are two kinds of writers in this world. There are the ones you read because you care about the topic or content they are creating and there are the ones you read because you care about the person who wrote it. I hope to fall into the latter category. I hope that at the end of the day, though the topic is what led you to me, what you ultimately connected with — is me.
I want you to read my writing because it makes you more curious, because it’s clear that I don’t have it all figured out, and because you really could imagine us being friends and having a conversation until 4 am about life in your living room. And hopefully, one day, we will.
